        Faced both present and future, it&rsquo;s time to draw some conclusions. And team GRT owner Filippo Conti is well aware of this as he considers a 2022 season that has fallen short of expectation in terms of results, but also a revolutionary 2023, which will bring two new riders and more besides. All in continued collaboration with Yamaha, for whom GRT remains the independent team of reference. &ldquo;We definitely expected more&rdquo;, begins Conti, &ldquo;we have to be honest. The Barcelona podium gave us a boost, so now the hope is that we can conclude the season in a positive fashion. I don&rsquo;t regret anything though, as difficulties often help us to grow, so I think a season like this can lay solid foundations for the future.&rdquo; Gerloff has struggled more than expected both this year and last, due to a series of factors on- and off-track. Has it been difficult to manage? &ldquo;No, and like I said the problems experienced over these two years have helped us to understand certain things. The important thing, both for us and him, is to finish the year on a high, so that we can look to the future with optimism.&rdquo; &nbsp;"Aegerter and Gardner two world champions, they know how to manage difficulties" A future that looks very bright for GRT. Was the decision to go with Gardner and Aegerter essentially down to you or Yamaha? &ldquo;The team and Yamaha work together, as one unit, with the same expectations. Gardner was a market opportunity, which Yamaha did well to seize. Aegerter has shown that he deserves a shot in Superbike, so the decision was logical. In a sense, Aegerter&rsquo;s profile represents the growth mentality that Yamaha has always carried forward&rdquo;. Was it tough to convince Gardner to change paddock? &ldquo;Andrea (Dosoli), Remy&rsquo;s manager and myself have a great relationship. Once his manager realised that there was no way for Remy to stay in MotoGP, he considered the available options. There was a possibility to go to a top Moto2 team but he chose Superbike, so we didn&rsquo;t have to convince him.&rdquo; Do you think it will be difficult to manage two thoroughbreds like Remy and Dominique? &ldquo;I can only hope it becomes difficult (he smiles)&rdquo;. Can you outline your goals for next season? &ldquo;Both will need time to adapt to the bike and the category, but we&rsquo;re talking about two world champions, who are not short on speed. The aspect we&rsquo;ll need to understand is the mental side, essential if you want to win titles. They&rsquo;ll have to deal with some difficulties at first, but I think they have everything they need to manage and overcome these. The goal is clear, everyone wants to be out front (he laughs).&rdquo; Changing the subject, as a Team Principal, do you consider Superbike to be in good health as a championship? &ldquo;Personally speaking, I can say that the platform is thriving and offers many opportunities, especially if you want to benefit from the support of a manufacturer. Nothing is easy, but the base is excellent for a team that wants to grow.&rdquo; In past years, there&rsquo;s been talk of a possible move to Moto2 and you&rsquo;re currently busy in MotoE. Are you considering a change of paddock? &ldquo;Our presence in MotoE is dictated by the fact that we consider it a championship with real room for development, and at the same time it doesn&rsquo;t conflict with Yamaha&rsquo;s strategy in Superbike. MotoGP and Superbike are two different products, with pros and cons rather than things that are better or worse: I don&rsquo;t want to move to Moto2, I&rsquo;m more interested in continuing to grow together with Yamaha&rdquo;.         If the rumour we&rsquo;ve heard from one of our trusted moles proves to be true, then this is bombshell news. Rumour has it that: "Iker Lecuona will race in place of Marc Marquez during the first MotoGP races of 2022". Wow, but this would mean two things, namely that number 93 is not yet ready to return and that the SBK rookie might not make his expected debut in the production-derived series. What do we mean by the &lsquo;first races&rsquo;? Well, considering this remains a rumour for now, coming via relatively reliable sources but still to be checked out, we don&rsquo;t know how many rounds the eight-time champion might miss. Perhaps two, three&hellip; It depends on his state of health. The championship kicks off on 6th March in Qatar, before moving on to Indonesia on the 20th, with two weeks between the opening rounds. Enough for MM93? It&rsquo;s then straight on to Argentina, and Texas, the Spaniard&rsquo;s hunting ground. And if they decided on Portimao, where he returned in 2021? HRC, hot property with all MotoGP riders  You might not believe it, but the 2022 MotoGP is all about the rider market. We&rsquo;ll also be taking in the results and performance of course, but the focus will be on the changes to rider line-ups. If Marc Marquez were to abdicate, and we wouldn&rsquo;t be surprised considering the current situation, a factory RC 213V would suddenly become available. That of the Repsol HRC team that is. And would Honda stand idly by? No, it would aim high. Fabio Quartararo&rsquo;s contract with Yamaha will be up for renewal, Joan Mir seeks an alternative to Suzuki, Jorge Martin hopes for a factory Ducati, but is not yet sure he&rsquo;ll get it. And so there it is, the Japanese four-cylinder, as hotly debated as it coveted. But the question is this &ndash; will HRC field Lecuona during the first races, having him perhaps miss some SBK rounds? We know that MotoGP takes priority over the production-derived series, so Iker would choose the first over the second, in fact we have the feeling the decision has already been made. Perhaps because the fear that Marc will no longer be the rider he once was is significant and real.         DAZN, the rights holder for MotoGP in Spain, has been working on an &ldquo;I, rider&rdquo; special that covers various subjects through the eyes of the stars themselves. Those interviewed include Jorge Lorenzo and Marc M&aacute;rquez, who spoke about the toughest side to this sport &ndash; the injuries. The careers of both have been marked by significant accidents, in fact M&aacute;rquez is currently dealing with the after-effects of one such incident. How does a rider deal with the crashes?  As reported on the As.com site, the Majorcan comments: &ldquo;I was one of the bravest, one of those who wasn&rsquo;t scared to admit how he was feeling, already in 2008. The crashes where I was scared were those in China, Le Mans or Montmel&oacute; where I hit my head. I reached the point where I was scared to ride, but I gradually got over it. I was the first to admit it&rdquo;. Motorcycling is one of the most dangerous sports, there&rsquo;s no denying it, and the five-time champion explains: &ldquo;In those moments, it&rsquo;s as if you once again become conscious of the risks of the sport, because sometimes you don&rsquo;t see it, you&rsquo;re protected and have good control of the bike, and you&rsquo;ve been doing it since you were little after all&hellip; but you&rsquo;re not conscious of the fact that, if something goes wrong, or you&rsquo;re unlucky, you may sustain a physical handicap or even die&rdquo;. Not all accidents are so easily overcome  We don&rsquo;t exactly know Marc Marquez&rsquo;s current state of health, the Spaniard having recently damaged his eye in a crash, but in the documentary he says: &ldquo;Normally, we riders have already internalised what crashes are, what risk, pain, and injuries are. You crash and want to get back on the bike, but there are times, or crashes, when you don&rsquo;t immediately feel like getting back on". But it is here that the most serious aspect of this passion-turned-job comes into play: "Maybe you prefer to wait one, two, three days or more. MotoGP, Lorenzo: “I reached the point where I was scared to ride”

        Covid-19 brings two new changes to the current calendar, confirmed as riders take to the track for the first day of action at the French Grand Prix. The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports have announced the cancellation of the Finland GP, due to travel-related difficulties owing to the pandemic. Despite this, the relationship with the Scandinavian country remains strong and Dorna has signed a new five-year agreement that will see the KymiRing feature on the calendar until at least 2026. As in 2020  Replacing that round is another event at the Red Bull Ring, to be held in addition to the 15 August round. The new event, to be known as the Michelin Stiria GP, will take place on 6-8 August. And the situation there should be a little closer to normal as, in agreement with the local authorities and while fully respecting all health protocols, both the Stiria and Austrian GPs will be open to a limited number of spectators who will be able to enjoy the world championship action in the best possible way. 2021 MotoGP calendar: Finland out, Austria doubles up

In 2021 Jonas Folger will be a Superbike rider, competing for team Bonovo MGM Racing after winning last year&rsquo;s German championship. And after completing some positive WorldSBK races as a wildcard. The 27-year old, a former MotoGP rider, will be riding a BMW and, with no team-mates, he tells the worldsbk.com website: &ldquo;My main rivals &ndash; or rather the riders I really have to beat - are the factory BMW guys!&rdquo;  His MotoGP past   Folger&#39;s world championship career began in 2008, in the 125 class, and he moved to the reigning class in 2017, before pulling out the following year due to health problems. In the top class he rode the Tech3 Yamaha: &ldquo;Two very different bikes, even if both are competitive. I&rsquo;m surprised by the BMW and know how much potential it has&rdquo;. His move has been fairly easy he admits, adding: &ldquo;I&rsquo;m absolutely convinced that the bike suits me and I can&rsquo;t wait to exploit and develop its potential&rdquo;.  The new experience   The German thus returns to the world stage: &ldquo;Being a rookie again is so exciting. It&rsquo;s a new category for me and I already had a lot of fun as a wildcard, when I was able to get a taste of this class&rdquo;. And it was love at first sight: &ldquo;I quickly realised that this was a category I wanted to race in, I think it&rsquo;s great. A great paddock, a relaxed atmosphere. All this makes a big difference&rdquo;.&nbsp;  &quot;We are rookies&quot;   But the fans will be sorely lacking: &ldquo;Unfortunately there won&rsquo;t be any spectators yet and so I&rsquo;m missing out on the &lsquo;normal&rsquo; Superbike context. But I know I&rsquo;ve made the right choice in coming to WorldSBK&rdquo;. And people are very interested to see what he can do: &ldquo;There are expectations, but the team and I are rookies. Our aim is the top ten and I think that&rsquo;s doable. I don&rsquo;t think I have a lot of pressure on me, unlike the factory riders, Michael van der Mark and Tom Sykes&rdquo;.         During today&rsquo;s virtual Gresini Racing team presentation, the squad introduced its new Moto3 line-up composed of Gabriel Rodrigo and Jeremy Alcoba, the 2020 &ldquo;rookie of the year&rdquo;. The Argentine embarks on his seventh consecutive season, his third with Gresini, and knows that the moment of truth has arrived . Looking back, Rodrigo comments: &ldquo;I felt really fast during my first year with the team. I learned a lot with them but then I got injured&rdquo;. As for 2020, he says: &ldquo;We started really well, but then came up against a brick wall and the sprint-style championship didn&rsquo;t help. We didn&rsquo;t have time to change course, and lost our way a little&rdquo;. Now it&rsquo;s time to turn the page: &ldquo;We&rsquo;ve learned a lot over the last two years and if we can put it all together this season then we can do really well&rdquo;. The expectations  The 2021 championship will get underway on 28 March in Qatar, and the 24-year old comments: &ldquo;There&rsquo;s no clear favourite, but I think we can both do well. You can&rsquo;t rule anyone out, not even the rookies, as we saw last year. The category is quite balanced. We are working on the details and hope to be in the mix up until the final race&rdquo;. Rodrigo has worked hard to prepare over the winter break: &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve focused on understanding where I can improve. Last year we learned to manage the races, but then lost a little of the speed we had in 2019. We can do well if we are able to combine both, I&rsquo;m very confident&rdquo;. And as for his physical preparation, he adds: "I&rsquo;ve trained more than ever with the MX bike, and I think this has helped physically speaking. I&rsquo;ve also worked on the mental side, as I needed a total reset. I struggled and needed more time than I imagined, but I&rsquo;m now back with even greater motivation and, with professional help, I&rsquo;m now in a really good place&rdquo;. Superpole?  One Moto3 issue regards qualifying, with riders often waiting for one other on track. Might the Superpole format be a solution? Alcoba comments: &ldquo;A slipstream really helps in Moto3. I don&rsquo;t know what they can do. It&rsquo;s up to Dorna, but they&rsquo;re already doing a good job&rdquo;. Rodrigo adds: &ldquo;Perhaps the only way to solve this problem is with the Superpole but I realise this isn&rsquo;t easy in terms of TV. They&rsquo;re working on it and I think we&rsquo;ll soon see some changes&rdquo;. The Argentinian disaster  Lastly, Rodrigo comments on the devastating fire that has destroyed a significant part of the Termas de Rio Honda circuit, his 'home' track: &ldquo;I was training when I heard the news. Argentina is already suffering due to Covid and with all the financial and health-related problems, this has come as another real blow. I&rsquo;ve spoken to a few people there, luckily they had insurance&rdquo;. The championship wasn&rsquo;t able to race there last year either: "I really want to go back there, it&rsquo;s an amazing setting&rdquo;.         A few days ago, Australian rider Sharni Pinfold announced that she would be leaving the world of racing as a result of having been subjected to derogatory treatment. In her lengthy social media post, Sharni underlined how difficult it was to start her career and secure a contract to compete in the IDM Supersport 300 championship. Having taken up racing following her father&rsquo;s death, Sharni took full responsibility for herself and worked free for years, selling everything she had and sacrifying "many things. My happiness, my lifestyle, my family, my mental health and my physical health. I felt that racing was the only meaning I had to my life, and so it seemed like a small price to pay&rdquo;, she wrote. Lack of respect  &ldquo;Throughout my journey in motorsport, I have experienced and been exposed to many challenges, some that I struggle to even speak about. Most of the challenges I have faced have been sourced from the lack of respect and derogatory treatment of women. Things that I know that I would have never had to experience or be exposed to if I was male&rdquo;, concluded Sharni in her post. Her words did not go unnoticed by the International Motorcycling Federation, which has now issued an official release to state that it is &ldquo;closely monitoring the situation following the statement made on social media by the Australian rider Sharni Pinfold, which aroused strong emotions within the motorcycling community&rdquo;. &ldquo;Gender equality is a core value for the FIM, which constantly strives to ensure the well-being of all riders and stakeholders. The FIM was upset to hear the news and takes the statement made by Ms. Pinfold very seriously. The FIM and the Australian Motorcycling Federation have maintained close contact with the young rider to understand the facts which led Sharni to such discouragement. We would like to stress that Sharni Pinfold can count on the unconditional support of the FIM to overcome this challenge&rdquo;, writes the FIM.&nbsp; The FIM against discrimination  The FIM recalls that the practice of motorcycling is open to all without discrimination and condemns any form of behavior contrary to these values. Since 2006 the FIM Women in Motorcycling Commission (CFM) has been working hard to create equal opportunities and promote equal treatment for women involved in motorcycle-related activities. &ldquo;The FIM does not accept any kind of discrimination towards our riders, regardless of their gender. We are one motorcycling family, everyone is welcome. No inappropriate or disturbing comments or actions shall be tolerated. We aim at supporting all riders and enabling them to pursue their dreams and keep their motivation high. The FIM Women in Motorcycling Commission, together with the FIM and its stakeholders, continue to work hard to improve gender equality in our sport at all levels", concluded the CFM Director, Ms Nita Korhonen. Sharni: "The goal is equality"  &ldquo;From experiencing what I have in my own journey, my wish is that I am able to contribute to the awareness of disrespectful and misogynistic treatment towards females&rdquo;, commented Sharni. &ldquo;I truly hope I am able to encourage the much needed improvement throughout the motorcycle industry and all industries where females are treated differently. This is not just me, there are many other women that have been treated poorly and as a result I hope to be able to empower others to know the importance and value of self-worth. &ldquo;It would be easy for me to sit back and point fingers at the people responsible, but I feel that true strength is determined by how we respond. Between one Portimao training session and the next, aboard a standard Suzuki and joined by current Moto3 champion Albert Arenas, Alex Rins has offered some initial thoughts on the 2021 season, which has already seen changes in terms of testing. The Sepang sessions have now been cancelled and the Suzuki rider admits: &ldquo;Due to the health emergency relating to Covid-19 we can&rsquo;t got to Malaysia and I&rsquo;m sorry because last year we weren&#39;t able to race there. I can&rsquo;t wait to start and am giving it my all in the gym in Andorra, and also with the MX bike. It will be another strange season, but I&rsquo;ll be giving 100%&rdquo;.  Qatar expectations   The first two rounds will be held in Qatar, with the same Losail track set to host the two pre-season tests just a few days earlier. The Spaniard comments: &ldquo;The races will be hard-fought, in a way we&rsquo;ve never seen before at that track, with real parity. Those with the biggest advantage will be the rookies and those changing bikes, because they&rsquo;ll get a lot of laps in ahead of time&rdquo;. The schedule will see riders staying in Qatar for about a month, with Rins commenting: &ldquo;I&rsquo;d prefer to stay somewhere else, because there&rsquo;s not much to do there and it&rsquo;s very hot&rdquo;.  A separation is never easy   The latest news regards Davide Brivio&rsquo;s departure and Rins had this to say: &ldquo;He called me the day before the media found out. I was driving back from my holidays. When he told me I thought he was joking. It was a big shock, for me and the whole team&rdquo;. For now, the Hamamatsu manufacturer has decided not to replace him: &ldquo;I think it&rsquo;s a good thing, it&rsquo;s not easy to quickly choose a team manager&rdquo;. As for their personal relationship, he adds: &ldquo;I&rsquo;ll miss him, we would talk a lot, joke around, he&rsquo;d give me advice. He was a key figure, he was always there and he&#39;d reassure you or give you what you needed with just a glance. I hope he comes to visit us at the races&rdquo;.  As well as wishing Davide all the best, the Spaniard adds: &ldquo;I&rsquo;m sure he&rsquo;ll do well in Formula 1. He created our team from scratch. It&rsquo;s true that there&rsquo;s a lot more people, but he has the means to do it&rdquo;. And if Rins had known about this before renewing for two years? &ldquo;I would have renewed anyway. As for 2020, he muses: &ldquo;Seeing as I couldn&rsquo;t win it myself, I was pleased for him (Mir) to win, and that the title came home, but now I want to do it. I hope for the same kind of sportsmanship in the garage that we had last year&rdquo;.  Rins concludes with a reflection on 2020: &ldquo;I still get angry when I think about the mistake I made at Jerez, which prevented me from doing well. The early years   Karel Abraham was born in Brno on 2 January 1990. Unlike his colleagues, from 1996 to 2001 he practiced alpine skiing. He then changed direction when he was about 12 and starting riding bikes, taking part in the Junior B 125 category of the national Czech and European minibike championships in 2002-2003 and finishing third in 2003. In 2004 he competed in the Czech, German and European minibike championships.  125, 250 and Moto2   In 2005-2006 he raced in 125 with Aprilia, first with team Semprucci Cardion Blauer and, in 2006, with a team founded by his father, Cardion AB Motoracing. He scored just eight points over the two years, all of which in just two races in 2006, in Japan and Portugal. In 2007 he moved to 250, still in the &ldquo;comfort zone&rdquo; of his family&rsquo;s team. He achieved 145 points between 2007 and 2009, with ten top-ten finishes over his three years in the Middle Class. His best season came in 2010, the year that Moto2 replaced the 250 class. He finished tenth overall with 96 points and scored his first podium in Japan as well as his first and only win at Valencia.  MotoGP and Superbike   2011 saw him make his MotoGP debut aboard the Ducati Desmosedici of family team Cardion AB Motoracing. Of his eight seasons in the Top Class, his best performances came in 2011 and 2012, when he finished 14th overall with 64 and 59 points respectively. With the ART he scored just five points in 2013, then 33 points in 2014 aboard the Honda and zero in 2015, again with the Honda.  In 2016 he moved to Superbike with the Milwaukee BMW team and team-mate Josh Brookes. He finished 18th overall with 33 points. Returning to MotoGP in 2017 with the team Aspar Ducati, he scored 32 points, a seventh-place finish in Holland his best result. He remained with team Aspar (Angel Nieto) in 2018 but results proved disappointing, the rider closing 23rd overall with just 12 points and an eleventh-place finish in Australia his best result.  He moved to Avintia in 2019 alongside Tito Rabat but scored just nine points over the 19-race season and was &lsquo;cut&rsquo; at the end of the season to make room for Johann Zarco.  Karel Abraham today   So what does the former rider do today? We asked him directly and talked about both the 2020 MotoGP and SBK seasons.  Karel, first of all, how are you and what are you up to now?  &ldquo;Health wise, I&rsquo;m good. But I miss the racing. This is the first year that I haven&rsquo;t been on track after a lifetime of riding. Unfortunately, Covid has drastically changed everyone&#39;s plans and, though luckily I haven&rsquo;t caught it, it&rsquo;s been hard for everyone with the country in lockdown&rdquo;.  We know Brno won&rsquo;t be on the calendar in 2021, what can you tell us?  &ldquo;I&rsquo;m not the right person to ask about the politics behind the Brno MotoGP round but I know a little. As a rider or former rider it&rsquo;s a terrible shame that MotoGP doesn&rsquo;t come to Brno anymore because everyone loves the track and we were pleased to hold the event here. Brno is also the longest track on the calendar along with Assen. It&rsquo;s bad news, I&rsquo;m disappointed and sad that the Brno race is no more but the government and Dorna were unable to reach an agreement or if there was one, it didn&rsquo;t work out&rdquo;.  Did you watch the MotoGP this last year?  &ldquo;Sure, I saw all the races, or most of them, and commented on five or six of them for Czech TV. It was a great season and I enjoyed watching&rdquo;.  What do you think of Joan Mir&rsquo;s title?  &ldquo;Joan Mir works with my former crew chief from my Aspar days, and both of them deserved the title this year. I know Joan personally, I like him and he&rsquo;s a great guy. I was supporting him this year and he deserved the title, especially for the second part of the season in which he was perfect. I&rsquo;m really happy for him. I have to admit that at the start of the season I didn&rsquo;t have him down as a possible contender, he surprised me in a positive way and I hope he can continue in the same vein in 2021 and fight for the title again&rdquo;. Sunday was the big day. Rally Raid legend Franco Picco left for his twenty-ninth desert marathon: the Dakar. The Italian rider has twice finished the event in second place, as well as having clocked up two wins in the Rally des Pharaons and three wins in the Rally of the Pyramids, competing since he was very young. When he&rsquo;s not racing, he organises bike trips in the desert. It&rsquo;s no surprise then that his nickname is &ldquo;the African&rdquo;.  As we&rsquo;ve said, at 65 years of age, Franco prepares to write another page of history, competing in the Dakar once more. A feat he will tackle alone, because he has decided to participate in the &ldquo;Original Motul&rdquo; class, without support.&nbsp;  Leaving yesterday   We spoke to Franco Picco shortly before he boarded a charter flight arranged by ASO, the Dakar organisation, bound for Jeddah.  &ldquo;They&rsquo;ve done a great job to get around the latest issues with the British COVID strain&rdquo;, explains Franco Picco. &ldquo;Saudi Arabia has closed in terms of all scheduled flights and only charter flights arranged by the ASO are permitted. Luckily I had already opted for a charter flight and so there were no changes. Those who went for a scheduled flight, which cost less, have now had to look for a seat on a charter flight, some having to leave a couple of days early. The organisers have done well to find a last minute solution in agreement with the authorities&rdquo;.  A &lsquo;health bubble&rsquo;   What is your schedule looking like once you arrive in Jeddah on Sunday evening?  &ldquo;I did a COVID test three days ago and will do another when I arrive, organised by the ASO. Then I have to stay in the hotel for two days. If the result is still negative, I can go to the port and get my bike.  &ldquo;They&rsquo;ve basically created a &lsquo;health bubble&rsquo;: you have to be OK to enter, and then not leave. During the race, this health bubble will move without having any other contact. A system that the organisers tested at the Tour de France and Saudi Arabia has definitely helped to ensure we can run the Dakar&rdquo;, adds Franco Picco.  How have you trained in recent days, after loading your Yamaha?  &ldquo;With the exercise bike and with handlebars and weights, to keep moving, but always at home. I didn&rsquo;t go out and about in order to reduce any risk. To avoid COVID I&rsquo;ve distanced, used a mask, washed my hands. I was just thinking that once we arrive in Jeddah there might be some cases, and anyone positive won&rsquo;t be able to race&rdquo;.  &quot;The route is well conceived&quot;   What do you think of the route?  &ldquo;It&rsquo;s the opposite way round to last year, when we started from Jeddah and headed north, crossing the desert on the last days.  &ldquo;This time we head south from Jeddah, into the Rub&rsquo; al Khali, then to Riyahd before climbing north. The rest day is in Ha&rsquo;il, where they had a Baja two weeks ago and some riders who will do the Dakar got some training in. Then we head a little further north, with another desert to cross, and then we have the famous Marathon phase, without support on arrival. Then it&rsquo;s back to the Red Sea, across from Sharm El-Sheikh, and down towards Jeddah in three stages, with the longest 500 km special on the penultimate day.  The route is well conceived, each day will see us cover many miles as we exit and enter the cities. The longest stage is 800 km to Riyahd, although the special is 300 km, we need to get up very early in the morning! There are 12 stages split into two groups of six, with a rest day inbetween, two boucles, or rather two ring-shaped routes, and we&rsquo;ll reach Jeddah on 15 January.  &ldquo;The temperature looks good too. I&rsquo;ve spoken to some guys who have already arrived and they tell me it&rsquo;s a good temperature, around 25&deg;C at eight in the evening. The second week might be a little cooler, at least in the evening, because we head north and to the mountains&rdquo;, adds Franco Picco.  &ldquo;There&rsquo;s definitely a bit of everything, sand, tracks, navigation near the Red Sea and at least four more technical stages in the desert.  &quot;Without charging in&quot;   How will you approach the race?  &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve decided to take it easy, without charging in&rdquo;, comments Picco. &ldquo;I haven&rsquo;t done anything for a week, and then we have another week before starting. So I need to get back into the rhythm and the best thing is to start easy and then build up towards the end. This is always the best approach at the Dakar, and for me too, considering I have #65 on the bike, my age. I never thought I&rsquo;d be doing a Dakar now, I have to remind myself of this too&hellip;&rdquo; concludes Franco Picco. Dakar exclusive, Franco Picco: &ldquo;I have to remember I&rsquo;m 65&rdquo;

        28 anni fa l&rsquo;ultimo Mondiale disputato in 500, concluso in decima posizione con 45 punti ed un solo podio in sella alla Yamaha: parliamo di un californiano di grande talento capace di numeri incredibili, ovvero Randy Mamola. 61 anni il 10 novembre. Re senza corona  Californiano di San Jos&egrave;, non ha mai centrato il titolo mondiale nonostante i suoi 13 anni di militanza nella 500 (dal 1979 al 1992, anno del suo ritiro dopo l&rsquo;ultima gara in Sudafrica). E&rsquo;, insieme a Mike Hailwood, Eddie Lawson e Loris Capirossi, il pilota che ha vinto almeno un GP nella Classe regina con tre marche diverse. Ritiratosi dalle competizioni a fine '92, ha iniziato a fare le telecronache del Motomondiale ed essere inviato sui campi di gara per Eurosport, nel 2000 &egrave; stato inserito nella Motorcycle Hall of Fame e nel 2018 Legend della MotoGP.&nbsp;  Gli inizi  Il californiano &egrave; diventato pilota professionista all&rsquo;et&agrave; di 16 anni e fino al 1978 ha corso per i circuiti degli Stati Uniti. L&rsquo;anno successivo &egrave; stato portato sui circuiti del Motomondiale dalla Yamaha esordendo nella 250 in Venezuela. Quarto posto finale con 64 punti e tre podi, niente male per un rookie! Nello stesso anno disputa sia la 350, raccogliendo per&ograve; zero punti, e la 500 con la Suzuki, chiudendo il campionato in ottava posizione con 29 punti ed i primi due podi in carriera. La 500, i titoli da vice campione e i numeri da rodeo  La storia vera di Mamola in 500 parte dal 1980, sempre in sella alla Suzuki. 2 vittorie (Belgio, Inghilterra), 4 podi complessivi ed il primo titolo da vice campione alle spalle del connazionale Kenny Roberts. L&rsquo;anno successivo le vittorie sono sempre 2 con 7 podi successivi ma il finale &egrave; identico all&rsquo;anno precedente, vice campione dietro a Marco Lucchinelli per soli 11 punti L&rsquo;82 &egrave; un anno complicato per Randy: 1 sola vittoria e 4 podi complessivi per un sesto posto finale e 65 punti mentre l&rsquo;anno successivo torna sul podio mondiale con il terzo posto finale. Nel 1984 il passaggio in Honda dopo 4 anni di Suzuki. E&rsquo; di nuovo vice campione del mondo dietro al connazionale Eddie Lawson per 31 punti con 3 vittorie e 9 podi su 10 gare totali. Il suo '85 assomiglia all&rsquo;82 con il sesto posto finale e 72 punti ma con l&rsquo;highlight del numero da rodeo a Misano nell&rsquo;ultima gara stagionale che conclude al terzo posto nonostante quel numero.&nbsp; Nel biennio 86-87 cambia ancora marca andando a correre per Yamaha. 4 vittorie e 19 podi complessivi con la casa di Iwata. L&rsquo;86 lo chiude al terzo posto con 105 punti mentre nell&rsquo;87 &egrave; nuovamente vice campione alle spalle di Gardner per 20 punti.&nbsp; Il fascino dell&rsquo;Italia e della "Rossa"  Nel 1988, venne ingaggiato dalla Cagiva, primo top rider dei tempi moderni disposto ad accettare la sfida di correre con la moto italiana, una sfida che si prospettava impegnativa ed infatti i risultati scarseggiarono, forse anche per la sua guida aggressiva, ma Mamola riusc&igrave; comunque a regalare alla casa italiana un podio iridato, il primo per una casa italiana nella classe regina dopo un digiuno lungo 13 anni. L&rsquo;evento &ldquo;storico&rdquo; si verific&ograve; quando alla guida della C588 Randy arriv&ograve; terzo dietro a Wayne Gardner e Eddie Lawson al Gran Premio del Belgio disputato il 3 luglio 1988.  Con la casa italiana rimane fino al 1990, raccogliendo pochissime soddisfazioni oltre al podio dell&rsquo;88 per via di una moto non ancora ai livelli delle grandi della 500.&nbsp; Gli ultimi anni e la beneficienza  Dopo l&rsquo;anno sabbatico del '91, decide di rimettersi in gioco nel '92 ritornando in Yamaha. Un solo podio e tante top 10 per quella che &egrave; la sua ultima stagione da pilota professionista. Al termine del '92 appende il casco al chiodo dedicandosi full time all&rsquo;attivit&agrave; di beneficienza, iniziata nel 1986. Dal '96 &egrave; tra i fondatori dell&rsquo;associazione Riders for Health, che si occupa di fornire moto e addestramento tecnico per la loro manutenzione ai progetti che si propongono di distribuire medicinali o apparati medicali nelle zone rurali&nbsp;dell&rsquo;Africa. Randy torner&agrave; a far vivere brividi in moto ai fortunati passeggeri della Ducati Desmosedici biposto. &nbsp; Buon Compleanno Randy, Cavallo Pazzo!

SBK, de Puniet e Lowes istruttori per beneficenza

Colin Edwards, ormai ex pilota di MotoGP, sar&agrave; a Silverstone, ma non per correre. Guider&agrave; invece il &ldquo;Day of Champions&rdquo; , iniziativa di beneficenza ben radicata nella tradizione delle gare inglesi. Il ricavato va a Riders For Health. Edwards ha annunciato in Texas la volont&agrave; di volersi ritirare. La sua ultima apparizione in gara &egrave; stata a Indianapolis, sempre in America. Poi, da Brno, sulla sua moto, la Yamaha del Team Forwards, &egrave; salito Alex De Angelis.    Edwards (guarda il video tributo che gli ha dedicato la Yamaha) aveva detto di voler correre ancora un paio di gara. Inizialmente sembrava che una di queste fosse proprio Silverstone, invece poi ha cambiato idea. E sar&agrave; in pista solo come &ldquo;guest star&rdquo;. Forse, ma non &egrave; sicuro, far&agrave; un&rsquo;ultima apparizione a Valencia, GP che conclude la stagione 2014, a novembre.  Ha gi&agrave; la testa verso altri orizzonti. Sta infatti lavorando a diversi progetti: diventer&agrave; il test rider della Yamaha per lo sviluppo delle gomme Michelin, sar&agrave; al fianco di Wayne Rainey, tre volte iridato della 500, per rilanciare il campionato AMA, e poi far&agrave; parte di un progetto per creare un team in Moto3 e Moto2 dedicato ai giovani americani.

  &Egrave; nata una collaborazione tra&nbsp;Yamaha e l&rsquo;organizzazione internazionale no-profit &ldquo;Riders for Health&rdquo;, da cui &egrave; nasce un raid benefico verso il Nord Africa a bordo del nuovo &ldquo;Yamaha XT1200Z Super T&eacute;n&eacute;r&eacute; First Edition&rdquo;. Questa collaborazione, denominato &ldquo;Ride for Life&rdquo;, con l&rsquo;obiettivo benefico di portare un aiuto concreto agli operatori sanitari presenti in Nord Africa. Il nuovo&nbsp;Super T&egrave;n&egrave;r&egrave; sar&agrave; infatti il protagonista assoluto di questa raid, infatti cinque esemplari verranno utilizzati dai medici per raggiungere le localit&agrave; pi&ugrave; sperdute consentendo di affrontare pi&ugrave; agevolmente i percorsi pi&ugrave; impervi. Saranno presenti inoltre addetti stampa e cinque clienti Yamaha che verranno selezionati.  Alla fine del percorso, le cinque moto saranno donate all&rsquo;organizzazione benefica &ldquo;Riders for Health&rdquo; insieme ad una dotazione di pezzi di ricambio essenziali che assicureranno un minimo di tre anni di efficienza nel difficile ambiente africano. In particolare, i Super T&eacute;n&eacute;r&eacute; saranno utilizzati da &ldquo;Riders for Health&rdquo; nella parte orientale dello Zambia. Le caratteristiche dei mezzi saranno particolarmente utili per visitare i centri rurali, effettuando un&rsquo;operazione di prevenzione e cura di malattie come AIDS, tubercolosi ed altre patologie sfortunatamente presenti nella regione. &ldquo;Ride for Life&rdquo; partir&agrave; il 4 maggio 2010 da Parigi, dove alcuni piloti Yamaha che hanno scritto la storia della&nbsp;Parigi-Dakar inaugureranno il viaggio, guidando le moto fino a Lisbona attraversando Madrid e Tolosa. Da Lisbona in poi, sino in Marocco, la sfida passer&agrave; nella mani dei cinque fortunati clienti Yamaha che saranno selezionati accompagnati dal pilota Helder Rodriguez, quarto classificato nella Dakar 2010, dalla capitale portoghese scenderanno verso la costa del Nord Africa. . La carovana di &ldquo;Ride for Life&rdquo; si far&agrave; strada attraverso i vicoli di Lisbona, verso l&rsquo;assolata Andalusia. Dopo un giorno interamente dedicato alla guida si raggiunger&agrave; Jerez de la Frontera, quinta citt&agrave; Andalusa per ordine di grandezza e sede del bellissimo circuito collinare dove ogni anno ha luogo l&rsquo;omonima gara della MotoGP. -         Giorno 2, venerd&igrave; 14 maggio, Jerez &ndash; Ceuta &ndash; Fes, Marocco.      Dopo una breve &ldquo;cavalcata&rdquo; mattutina, il gruppo raggiunger&agrave; Algesiras, dove avverr&agrave; l&rsquo;imbarco per Ceuta, in Marocco. La rotta sar&agrave; verso Sud, fino a incontrare Fes, ex capitale del Marocco e patrimonio dell&rsquo;umanit&agrave; UNESCO. -         Giorno 3, sabato 15 maggio, Fes - Merzouga, Marocco.      Si lascer&agrave; Fes per affrontare gli splendidi contrafforti dell&rsquo;Atlante e raggiungere la destinazione finale: Merzouga, la porta del Sahara. -         Giorno 4, domenica 16 maggio, Merzouga - Ouarzazate, Marocco.       Da Merzouga il viaggio proseguir&agrave; verso Ouarazate, una citt&agrave; a met&agrave; strada tra il centro ed il Sud del Marocco. -         Giorno 5, luned&igrave; 17 maggio, Ouarzazate -      Marrakech, Marocco. Di buon mattino si entrer&agrave; nell&rsquo;abitato di Marrakesh, conosciuta anche come &ldquo;Citt&agrave; rossa&rdquo;. Qui avverr&agrave; la consegna ufficiale dei cinque &ldquo;Yamaha Super T&eacute;n&eacute;r&eacute; First Edition&rdquo;a &ldquo;Riders for Health&rdquo;. -      Marted&igrave; 18 maggio,&nbsp; rientro in Europa
